Today’s Pearl, Sapphira Oddo is family and friend living in Fort
Collins, Colorado and attending Colorado State University. Friends with my daughter, Micha; Sapphira
adopted me as her father. See her video on YouTube.
This single mom of two sons and full time student pursuing a
writing career descends from ancestors indigenous to what became the American
Southwest. Before the coming of
Europeans to North America, the Navajo lived in what became Northern Arizona. Sapphira speaks of her development as living
out the tension of a learned sense of self and her inherited sense of self.
Her relationship with her elders grounded her in the culture
and history of her ancestors while engaging culture beyond her family. She is honored she descends from a
matriarchal culture with a creation narrative about the first woman. This inspiration for her life teaches her
strong women last. Learn more about my awesome daughter who has a soul from the spirit of the 1960's and today's pearl on Facebook.

I met today’s Pearl at a late 90’s Juneteenth Festival,
Franklin Park in Columbus, Ohio. Joylynn was making herself and her work known amongst the sounds of celebration
and the aromas of outdoor grilled foods.
The revelation of her soul beauty, creativity and engaging intellect
prompted me stop to meet her and listen to her heart talk.
Her available works at the time included, “Please Tell Me If the Grass is Greener”
and “World on My Shoulders”. Later a blessedselling author, her further
titles include, “Been There Prayed That”,
“the Root of All Evil”, “When Souls Mate”, “If I Ruled the World”, “She
Who Finds a Husband”, and “Trying to
Stay Saved”.
Joylynn would be the lead presenter for the Columbus Black
Writers Conference teaching participants and attendees the details of self –
publishing. Her direction led to my
work, now in the Library of Congress, “The
Monday Morning Word 2000”.
Joylynn is the founder and promoter of the holiday, “Be Who
You Want Your Kids to Be Day.” She says
if she could encourage authors to do one thing; it would be to begin generating
a fan base once the first chapter is completed.
Serve appetizers by email, text, tweet, and Facebook excerpts, quotes
and lines. This is priceless.
Joylynn is a successful Pearl who takes being Christian
woman, wife, mother and author seriously.

Real friendship, like real poetry, is extremely rare – and precious as a pearl. ~Tahar Ben Jelloun From the sandy salt waters of the gulfs around Planet Earth,
oysters obedient to their design create from within themselves precious gifts
of love and beauty. They create pearls.
Today’s pearl is Liana Mullinax (See Video). She is a polyglot from Moscow, Russia. She speaks Russian, Armenian, and
English. She makes home in Glendale, California. Educated in a teacher’s college in Armenia,
Liana studied at the Armenian State Pedagogical University. Armenia
was the first nation state in the world to adopt Christianity as its national
religion. Liana is Christian.
Liana and I talked on the phone some time ago confirmed my
observation of her nature as humble loving woman. The tone and tempo of her voice was calming
to hear. I am thankful to know her as
friend.
Liana loves nature, the adventure of travel and experiencing
new places and new people. Professionally, Liana coordinates patient care and
billing for the Uro Plus Medical Center in Burbank, California. Learn
more about Liana on Facebook.

the 12 Pearls of Christmas
Six of the twelve Pearls of Christmas, I know
personally. Six of Twelve Pearls, I have
been privileged to meet on the
Internet. All of us connect on the
Internet.
Today’s Pearl, I have the privilege to know in person. October 1995, I was an adjunct professor
teaching Values and Attitudes at Columbus State Community College in Columbus,
Ohio. Denise Lewis was a bright light in my
class. She really did not need a
teacher. She was prepared to do what I
was doing when I arrived. She managed my
class for me while I was away to participate in the Million Man March.
Over the years, we have consulted on activities in ministry
of best practices for addiction recovery, confidentiality, and spiritual
principles for living. 18 years later,
Denise is woman, wife, mother and a Ph.d. teaching where I earned my Master of
Divinity at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. A world traveler and recent speaker for an
international conference in Italy, Denise is a Pearl of the 12 Pearls of
Christmas 2013. Be a blessing to
yourself; follow Denise and her exciting work on Facebook and Twitter.
"He who would search for pearls must move away from the shallow water's edge and dive in the deep," John Dryden paraphrased. Pearls are precious jewels produced inside the mollusk shell when sand enters the living mollusk. The sand irritates the inner lining of the Mollusk tissues. It secretes a fluid around the sand to protect itself and as the fluid builds up around the sand and hardens, so does the beauty of the pearl.
Ancient story tells of a man who discovered a precious pearl and desired it so much, he sold all his possessions to purchase it. That behavior has all the earmarks of love. The best amongst humans will give all they are and all they possess for love like the man who gave his all for one pearl. Love and Pearls are rare, beautiful, and precious.
